![]() ![]() We were very happy, I think 2K and Gearbox were very happy. ![]() The sales were not disappointing - to put that in perspective, they were not at the same level as Walking Dead or Minecraft. And one of my best friends, Nick Herman, who was always kind of bummed out, was like ‘oh man, the sales were disappointing and the pressure was on’. Job Stauffer: So a few weeks ago Campo Santo did a big retrospective with people from the team who have since gone on to work at other companies. You say sales were great, but were they? Telltale alumni Nick Herman recently said there weren’t. Regardless of reviews - which were great, sales - which were actually great. Getting to the point where people cosplay as Fiona and pose for pictures at Gamescom with Angela Merkel is like… ‘wow’. Job Stauffer: We heard a lot of that - it was nice to introduce people to that world. That’s a real shame - I liked it and I don’t really like the main Borderlands games. Job Stauffer: I would say… that is an accurate prediction. Obviously Gearbox hasn’t said when Borderlands 3 will be released, but even if it was next year it feels like there would be no more Telltale Borderlands for quite some time. As of right now we have no plans to make a second season of Tales from the Borderlands. So, you guys have said the next Borderlands story will come from Gearbox, which effectively rules you out of revisiting that universe for a good while. If you have some familiarity with the Borderlands universe i think it would be significantly more appealing. Really that’s the most impressive thing about it, how it very much is exactly like living in the Borderlands universe, including the heavily contrasted outlined, low-rez graphics. Like all fanfiction it’s exactly what a Borderlands experience is, minus the endless combat. It’s very stylish - it’s much more stylish than the Borderlands games themselves. Guess we’ll see how this one does when I do get around to playing, hopefully soon. If you keep your expectations reasonable, there’s room in there for a unique experience. Seems to me they’ve only really ever talked about tailoring the games around your decisions but of course there has to be a limit to that, especially for the (relatively) smaller, lower budget stuff Telltale does. I’ve never really gotten the big deal people make about the falseness of choice in these games. Everyone says it’s really great, and I’m hoping as a neophyte having played maybe 10 minutes of Borderlands years back and it at least makes a tiny bit of sense to me. I bought this and Life is Strange on XB1 a little while back when both were on sale, but haven’t played this one yet. ![]() But that was a few years ago, and I don’t remember thinking it looked bad but I probably gave it more of a pass for being earlier and on hardware that wasn’t quite up to it.Īre all their games about the same as this? I can’t imagine going back and trying Fables (which I was interested in) if this is normal for them. ![]() The only other Telltale game I played was a few episodes of their first Walking Dead, and that was on a 3rd gen iPad (and I tried a Sam and Max game on my original iPad, that was truly unplayable). This seems like something they really should be better at when watching the game is as important as it is to an adventure game. Action scenes look awful (vehicles in particular), anything dynamic just exposes the problems more. It looks last-gen at best, and it’s not like it’s unplayable, but I’m just shocked that they’ve done so many of these games and the whole presentation is still so unpolished. Just finished up the first episode last night, and I had a good time though it’s too soon to really say anything meaningful about the story itself.īut good lord, are all their games this bad looking? Animation is choppy and stilted, things clip weirdly and pop in with camera cuts, lip syncing is terrible, it’s just all so blah. So, this got a lot of positive buzz and I got the impression it was up there with the best of their adventure games so far and I grabbed it on sale a few weeks ago for the PS4. I searched (twice!) and found threads for every Telltale game except this one. ![]()
